Fort São Sebastião de Xama

Fort São Sebastião or Fort San Sebastian located in Shama, Ghana, is the third oldest fortification in Ghana and it was built in 1523. Along with several other castles in Ghana, it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979 because of its testimony to the history of European trade, colonization, and exploitation in the region.

Shama is a coastal town in the Shama district in the Ghanaian Coastal Plain. It is known for its lush beaches and vegetation. It is about 25 km away from Takoradi and 160 km from Ivoiro, the border town between Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire.

Aboadze is a town in the Western region of Ghana. It serves both as a dormitory town as well as an industrialized zone. It also houses Ghana's first thermal plant for electricity production. Aboadze is situated 5 km south of Shama District.
