The Roman fortress Castra

Castra ad Fluvium Frigidum, also simply Castra, referred to as mutatio Castra in Itinerarium Burdigalense, was a Late-Roman fortress which constituted the centre of Claustra Alpium Iuliarum, an Ancient Roman defensive system of walls and towers stretching from the Gail Valley to the Učka mountain range. The Roman fortress Castra is situated 3 km north of Dolenje.

The field was originally built for the Battles of the Isonzo and is today home to the Josip Križaj Ajdovščina Aeroclub and the ultralight aircraft manufacturer Pipistrel. Ajdovščina Airfield is situated 3 km northwest of Dolenje.
