Mosynopolis, of which only ruins now remain in Greek Thrace, was a city in the Roman province of Rhodope, which was known until the 9th century as Maximianopolis or, to distinguish it from other cities of the same name, as Maximianopolis in Rhodope. Mosynopolis is situated 3 km southwest of Arcadia.

Komotini, is a city in the region of East Macedonia and Thrace, northeastern Greece and its capital. It is also the capital of the Rhodope. It was the administrative centre of the Rhodope-Evros super-prefecture until its abolition in 2010, by the Kallikratis Plan.
