Hitoyoshi is the southernmost city of Kumamoto prefecture, Japan. It is famous for its river fog from late autumn to early spring, kuma shochu spirits, and ayu or sweetfish.

Yamae is a village located in Kuma District, Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. As of 31 August 2024, the village had an estimated population of 3,177 in 1194 households, and a population density of 26 persons per km2. The total area of the village is 121.19 km2. Yamae is situated 10 km northwest of Hitoyoshi Nōgei Gakuin.
