The current Egmont Key Light dates from 1858. It is the oldest structure in the Tampa Bay area still used for its original purpose. Egmont Key Lighthouse is situated 2 miles southwest of Fort DeSoto Dog Beach.

Egmont Key National Wildlife Refuge and State Park is a National Wildlife Refuge and State Park located on the island of Egmont Key, at the mouth of Tampa Bay. Egmont Key is situated 2½ miles southwest of Fort DeSoto Dog Beach.
