The monastery stands on the edge of the Kasagh River canyon, and its territory is adjacent to the village of Ohanavan. Hovhannavank is situated 4 km east of Surb Sargsi Lanjer.

The church of Surp Astvatsatsin is located just off of the main highway through the village of Karbi in the Aragatsotn Province of Armenia.
