Erebuni Fortress

Erebuni Fortress is an Urartian fortified city, located in Yerevan, Armenia. It is 1,017 metres above sea level. It was one of several fortresses built along the northern Urartian border and was one of the most important political, economic and cultural centers of the vast kingdom. Erebuni Fortress is situated 1¼ km south of Tokhmakh cemetery.

Erebuni Historical-Archaeological Reserve-Museum, was established on October 19, 1968. The opening of the museum was timed to coincide with the 2750th anniversary of Yerevan. Erebuni Historical and Archaeological Museum-Reserve is situated 1 km south of Tokhmakh cemetery.

Erebuni is one of the 12 districts of Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. It is situated southeast of the city centre where Erebuni Fortress is located. The name of Yerevan itself is derived from ancient Erebuni.
