Pirene or Peirene is the name of a fountain or spring in Greek mythology, physically located in Corinth. It was said to be a favored watering-hole of Pegasus, sacred to the Muses.

Corinth was a city-state on the Isthmus of Corinth, the narrow stretch of land that joins the Peloponnese peninsula to the mainland of Greece, roughly halfway between Athens and Sparta.

Examilia is a town in the municipality of Corinth, Greece. It is situated about 5 km south of Corinth, and 6 km west of Kechries. The name likely derives from the adjacent Hexamilion Wall, although it had not been in use for some time before the town was founded. Examilia is situated 4½ km east of Peirene Fountain.
