Sapugaskanda Power Station

Power station

The Sapugaskanda Power Station is a 160-megawatt base load thermal power station located in Heiyanthuduwa, adjacent to the Sapugaskanda Refinery, in the Western Province of Sri Lanka. Sapugaskanda Power Station is situated 4 km southwest of Meegahawatta West.

The Sapugaskanda Refinery is the single largest oil refinery of Sri Lanka. The refinery was built in August 1969 by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation under the guidance of Iran, initially designed to process 38,000 barrels per stream day. Sapugaskanda Refinery is situated 4½ km southwest of Meegahawatta West.
