The upper valley of the Mira River, called the Chota River in its upstream portion, in northern Ecuador, and the small villages in it are usually referred to as 'El Chota', and it runs east–west between the two ranges of the Andes. Chota is situated 4 km south of Itazán.

Ambuquí is a rural parish in northern Ecuador in the Imbabura Province. It is located in the Chota Valley 29 km away from Ibarra. The parish is also considered one of the major producers of the reddish yellow variety of the Spondias purpurea in the country. Ambuquí is situated 9 km southeast of Itazán.
