It is located on top of Little Mountain approximately 125 metres above sea level and is the location of former basalt quarries dug in the beginning of the twentieth century to provide materials for roads in the city.

Officially recognized by the city as being primarily a major South Asian, Indo-Canadian and Punjabi population business community and cultural area, the Punjabi District is roughly a six block section of Main Street around 49th Avenue in the Sunset neighbourhood.
