Berne Region

The central, flatter part of the canton of Berne is marketed as the Swiss Mittelland by the Swiss tourism office. This region includes the northern part of the canton of Berne, the German speaking part of Fribourg as well as the southern half of the canton of Solothurn.

Although is the seat of most of the institutions of the confederation, this is only a small to medium sized city with a population of about 130,000 in the city proper and roughly 350,000 in the urban agglomeration.
