Mount Ruapehu is an active stratovolcano at the southern end of the Taupō Volcanic Zone and North Island volcanic plateau in New Zealand. It is 23 km northeast of Ohakune and 23 km southwest of the southern shore of Lake Taupō, within Tongariro National Park. Mount Ruapehu is situated 3½ km northeast of Winter Garden.

Turoa is a skifield on the south western side of Mount Ruapehu, the highest mountain in the North Island of New Zealand, in Tongariro National Park. The area has been used for skiing since before the completion of the Mountain Road; however, the first commercial field was ready in 1965, but with a poor snow season did not operate.

Tukino skifield is located on the eastern face of Mount Ruapehu, in the central area of the North Island, New Zealand. A club managed field, Tukino is open to the general public and both skiing and snowboarding are popular. Tukino Village is situated 7 km northeast of Winter Garden.
