Colom Island is a small island of 143 acres, located about 200 metres from the north-east coast of Menorca. In the past it was used as a pesthouse and later as farmland.

Maó is the capital city of Menorca. It has a fine natural harbour, one of the best in the Mediterranean, which was why the British made it the capital following their occupation of 1708.

Es Castell is a town of almost 8,000 people at the mouth of the port of Maó in the east of Menorca. The town takes its name from the Castle of San Felipe, which was built to protect the island against attacks by the Turks in the 16th century.
