It was the home of the well known children's author and Jesuit priest Jón Sveinsson; also known as "Nonni". Nonni’s House is situated 1 km northeast of Elísabetarhagi.

The area has access to high-temperature geothermal heat, which is used to heat houses and greenhouses. Hrafnagil is situated 10 km south of Elísabetarhagi.
