Veleta or Pico del Veleta is the third highest peak of the Iberian Peninsula and the second highest of the Sierra Nevada. Its height is given variously as 3,394 metres, 3,396 metres and 3,398 metres.

Mulhacén, with an elevation of 3,479 metres, is the highest mountain in peninsular Spain and in all of the Iberian Peninsula. It is part of the Sierra Nevada range in the Penibaetic System. Mulhacén is situated 3½ km east of Corral de Valdeinfierno.

The Sierra Nevada Observatory is located at Loma de Dilar in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, in the province of Granada, Spain; established in 1981. It is operated and maintained by the Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía and contains two Nasmyth telescopes with apertures of 1.5 and 0.9 metres.
