The Kyōto Imperial Palace, also known as Dairi, is the former palace of the Emperor of Japan from 1337 to 1869 located in Kamigyō-ku, Kyoto, Japan. Since the Meiji Restoration in 1869, the Emperors have resided at the Tokyo Imperial Palace, while the preservation of the Kyoto Imperial Palace was ordered in 1877. Shōkoku-ji, formally identified as Mannen-zan Shōkoku Shōten Zenji, is a Buddhist temple in northern Kyoto, first founded in 1382 by Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, with the existing temple complex having undergone several periods of extensive reconstruction and rebuilding in the succeeding eras.
