It is situated under Rua Alfredo Allen on the University of Porto campus, from which it takes its name. Pólo Universitário station is situated 200 metres south of Pólo Universitário (metro).

The University Hospital of São João, or simply São João Hospital, is the biggest hospital in Northern Portugal and one of the biggest in Portugal.
