Versailles Orangerie

The Versailles Orangerie was built by Jules Hardouin-Mansart between 1684 and 1686, before work on the Château de Versailles had even begun. The Orangerie, which replaced Louis Le Vau's earlier design from 1663, is an example of many such prestigious extensions of grand gardens in Europe designed both to shelter tender plants and impress visitors. Versailles Orangerie is situated 330 metres southeast of Latona Parterre.

The grand appartement de la reine is the Queen's grand apartment of the Palace of Versailles. Forming a parallel enfilade with that of the grand appartement du roi, the grand appartement de la reine served as the residence of three Queens of France: Maria Theresa of Spain, Marie Leszczyńska and Marie Antoinette. Queen’s Grand Apartment is situated 310 metres southeast of Latona Parterre.

The grand appartement du roi is the King's grand apartment of the Palace of Versailles. As a result of Louis Le Vau's envelope of Louis XIII’s château, constructed as part of Louis XIV's second building campaign, the King and Queen had new apartments in the new addition, known at the time as the château neuf. King’s Grand Apartment is situated 310 metres east of Latona Parterre.
