The station is situated in the central part of the suburb and is integrated in the adjacent open-air shopping centre, Albertslund Centrum. It was operated as a state prison from its opening in 1859 to January 2016 and then served as a special departure center for rejected asylum seekers with prison sentences until February 2018.
