Elphin is a small town in north County Roscommon, Ireland. It forms the southern tip of a triangle with Boyle 18 km and Carrick-on-Shannon 14 km to the north west and north east respectively. Elphin is situated 8 km southwest of Mullagh.

Carrick-on-Shannon is the county town of County Leitrim in northwest Ireland, and grew up at a place where the Shannon could be forded. Later the river was bridged, so Carrick and the south bank village of Cortober in County Roscommon became a single settlement.
