Nile 1st. Cataract

The Cataracts of the Nile are shallow lengths of the Nile river, between and , where the surface of the water is broken by many small boulders and stones jutting out of the river bed, as well as many rocky islets.

The , often called simply Aswan Dam, was built between 1960 and 1970 across the Nile in , Egypt. One of the world's largest embankment dams, it was developed by the Egyptian government with the help of the Soviet Union to control flooding, increase water storage for irrigation, and generate hydroelectricity.
