It was built in 1725 by the Fondazione Vilhena of Grand Master Manoel de Vilhena, and was rebuilt in the 1780s. Ta‘ Kola Windmill is situated 320 metres southwest of Dolceria Bartolo.

The present building was constructed between 1815 and 1855, on the site of a smaller church which had been built in the 17th century. Basilica of the Nativity of Our Lady is situated 400 metres southwest of Dolceria Bartolo.
