Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly is one of the twenty-two districts in Central Region, Ghana. Fort William Lighthouse is located on the Dawson's Hill in the old centre of Cape Coast, in Ghana's Central Region. The lighthouse is often called Cape Coast Castle Light, although it is not part of the Cape Coast Castle complex. Cape Coast Light is situated 580 metres southeast of Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly.

Cape Coast Castle is one of about forty "slave castles", or large commercial forts, built on the Gold Coast of West Africa by European traders. It was originally a Portuguese "feitoria" or trading post, established in 1555, which was named Cabo Corso. Cape Coast Castle is situated 1¼ km southeast of Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly.
