Moate is a town in County Westmeath, Ireland. As of the 2022 census, it had a population of 3,013. The town's Irish name, An Móta, is derived from the term motte-and-bailey, as the Normans built an example of this type of fortification here. Moate is situated 4½ km south of Moyvoughly.
