La Coquille was on one of the five routes leading to Santiago de Compostela in Spain and it was in this parish that pilgrims were given a coquille Saint-Jacques, a scallop shell symbolic of the Way of St. La Coquille is situated 4 km northeast of La Basse Pouyade.
