It is an intermediate stop on the 1,000 mm metre gauge Furka Oberalp line of the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn and is served by local trains only. Niederwald railway station is situated 2 km east of Richinen.

The Risihorn is a mountain of the Bernese Alps, overlooking Bellwald in the canton of Valais. It lies south of the Setzehorn, at the southern end of the chain lying east of the Fiescher Glacier. Risihorn is situated 2½ km north of Richinen.
