It was built by the Order of Saint John in 1714–1716 as one of a series of coastal fortifications around the Maltese Islands. Wied Musa Battery is situated 120 metres north of Il-Marfa - Aħrax.

Tal-Bir Redoubt is situated 410 metres east of Il-Marfa - Aħrax.
