Dumbarton Oaks, formally the Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Collection, is a historic estate in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C. It was the residence and gardens of wealthy U.S. diplomat Robert Woods Bliss and his wife Mildred Barnes Bliss. Dumbarton Oaks Estate is situated 1,700 feet north of Proper Topper.

Original plans for the church date to 1769, and the parish church was officially founded by Walter Dulany Addison in 1796. The Volta Laboratory and the Volta Bureau were created in Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C., by Alexander Graham Bell.
