Kunitachi is a city in western Tokyo. The naming of Kunitachi comes from its location: sandwiched between Kokubunji and Tachikawa, the first kanji in each city was combined to create a new name.

Kokubunji is a city located in the western portion of the Tokyo Metropolis, Japan. As of 1 March 2021, the city had an estimated population of 126,791, and a population density of 11,000 persons per km2. The total area of the city was 11.46 square kilometres.
