Albert Szent-Györgyi Medical University was originally established in Kolozsvár, then in Austria-Hungary, later Romania, in 1872. After World War I, it was moved to Szeged.

The Votive Church and Cathedral of Our Lady of Hungary is a twin-spired church in Szeged. It lies on Dóm square beside the Dömötör tower. Construction began in 1913, but due to the outbreak of the First World War, it was not completed until 1930. Votive Church of Szeged is situated 370 metres north of University of Szeged Albert Szent-Györgyi Medical School.

It is under jurisdiction of the Eparchy of Buda of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
