Dessau, now Dessau-Roßlau, has a population of 68,000 and is the third largest city in the Saxony-Anhalt region of Germany. Dessau is historically the capital of the Principality of Anhalt.

Bauhaus Dessau, also Bauhaus-Building Dessau, is a building-complex in Dessau-Roßlau. It is considered the pinnacle of pre-war modern design in Europe and originated out of the dissolution of the Weimar School and the move by local politicians to reconcile the city's industrial character with its cultural past. Bauhaus Dessau is situated 4½ km south of Gasviertel.

Rosslau was until 30 June 2007 a town in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, belonging to the district Anhalt-Zerbst. After a fusion with the town of Dessau it became eponym of the newly founded town of Dessau-Roßlau and a quarter of it. Roßlau is situated 5 km north of Gasviertel.
