Northern Portugal

The North Region or Northern Portugal is the most populous region in , ahead of Lisbon, and the third most extensive by area. The region has 3,576,205 inhabitants according to the 2017 census, and its area is 21,278 kilometres with a density of 173 inhabitants per square kilometre.

is 's second largest city and the capital of the Northern region, and a busy industrial and commercial centre. The city isn't very populous, but the metropolitan area has some 1.8 million inhabitants in a 50-km radius, with cities like , , and .

is one of the five largest cities of , situated in the region in the North of the country. It is known for its abundance of churches and thus called the "city of archbishops".
