is 's second largest city and the capital of the Northern region, and a busy industrial and commercial centre. The city isn't very populous, but the metropolitan area has some 1.7 million inhabitants in a 50-km radius, with cities like , , and .

is one of the five largest cities of , situated in the region in the North of the country. It is known for its abundance of churches and thus called the "city of archbishops".
