Oshawa is a city of 160,000 people in southern , 50 km east of . Oshawa has been a centre of Canada's automotive industry since the early 20th century, and is home to the Canadian Automotive Museum.

The , located in Oshawa, , was the residence of Samuel McLaughlin and was home to the McLaughlin family from 1917 until 1972. The residence was designed by Darling and Pearson, a noted architectural firm, with construction starting in 1916.
