is a collection of modern high-rise office and residential buildings built according to an evolving central plan on the western outskirts of Paris, beyond the last Parisian loop of the river Seine.

The centre of contemporary Paris and the site of such landmarks as the Louvre and of the Tuileries and Palais-Royal, the is full of attractions for travellers of all inclinations, including some of the finest parks, museums, shops, and bars in the city.

The is perhaps the most expensive area to live in Paris. The Eiffel Tower, one of the most famous tourist sites in the world, is here, as well as many government buildings. Many dignitaries and VIPs populate this arrondissement.

Destinations to Discover

Explore places such as 2nd arrondissement and 9th arrondissement.

The of Paris is one of the financial centres of Europe, being home to the Bourse and thus the CAC 40 index you hear about in world financial news. Other major activities in the neighbourhood are journalism and fashion.

The of Paris is a diverse, "in between" section of the French capital. The Grands Boulevards area of shopping thoroughfares and flagship department stores is to be found in the southern part of the arrondissement.

The of Paris is home to the Avenue des Champs Elysées, which ends up at the Arc de Triomphe. The executive branch of French government is also based here, as well as the embassies of certain nations.

The 4th is a good chunk of what used to be medieval Paris, and you'll find a lot left from that time on both islands and in the narrow streets of the lower Marais.

A quieter part of the ancient Marais neighbourhood which is centred in the , the 3rd is possibly one of the best places to live in Paris. There are several good open air markets and lots of great local designer clothing stores.

As with Paris itself, the is hard to write about without using superlatives. There's a bit of everything here, from the busy sidewalks of Paris' main art Gallery scene to the expansive green spaces and under-tree cafés of the Jardin…

The of Paris centres on the Canal Saint Martin and the restaurants and cafés which line its banks. Part sleepy faubourg — as suburbs were called in 18th century Paris — and part industrial centre, the has lately enjoyed the benefits of both the booming nightlife scene in the neighbouring 11th, as well as the Parisian cycling and roller-blading boom.

The of Paris is one of the best known of the city's central districts, located on the Left Bank of the river Seine. Also commonly known as the "Latin Quarter" because the first great Parisian university, the Sorbonne, was founded here and Latin was the language the medieval period students used once to speak.

Although largely residential, the is best known for its northeastern quartier Montparnasse, for the Paris Catacombs and the Parc Montsouris.

The of Paris is one of the largest of the city's districts even without the 2,460 acre Bois de Vincennes, which more than doubles its size.

The is home to two quite different but equally blossoming centres of Parisian nightlife. The streets just northwest of Place de la Bastille are full of little bars which attract a mix of young suburban Parisians, expats, and foreigners.

The of Paris is primarily a residential and business district in the southeast of Paris, on the of the Seine. Although not usually recognised as a natural magnet for tourists, the 13th nonetheless does hold several attractions…

The of Paris lies to the east of the centre and represents an old working-class area now in rapid transformation. The main drawing card here for tourists is the Père-Lachaise Cemetery, though, for travellers who are interested in music and culture, this relatively gritty area is probably going to be one of your main night-crawling areas.

The of Paris is probably best known for the hill of Montmartre which was the centre of the Communard uprising of the late-nineteenth century, but is also perhaps better known as the centre of the flourishing artist community of the period from around 1907-1914.

The of Paris lies off the beaten path, directly north of the Arc de Triomphe. If you want to see Paris at some of its finest, wealthiest, and most eclectic, this is the place to go.

The of Paris is in the city's southwest on the Left Bank of the Seine. Quite up-market and quiet, it is the largest arrondissement by both area and population.

This large district occupies most of the West of Paris, extending east-west between the bends of the Seine from the Jardins of Trocadero immediately facing the Eiffel Tower to the expansive Bois du Boulogne, and north-south from the Etoile to the southern border of Paris.

The of Paris is in the north of the city, and is a peaceful, green and family-friendly refuge from the otherwise quite stuffy and/or shabby city.

The in travellers' terms generally refers to the "Left Bank" of the River Seine in the capital city of Paris. The defies precise definition but generally refers to those arrondissements on the southern bank of the river as it flows…
