Valmiera is the second largest city of the historical Vidzeme region, Latvia, with a total area of 19.35 square kilometres. As of 2002, Valmiera had a population of 27,323, and in 2020, it was at 24,879.

Līgatne is a town in Līgatne Parish, Cēsis Municipality in the Vidzeme region of Latvia. It is situated on the Gauja River. The village of Līgatne was built around the paper mill, still extant, on the River Līgatne in the 19th century.

Strenči is a city in Valka district, northern Latvia, 25 km from the border with Estonia. Strenči lies half way between Valmiera and Valka.

Seda is a town in the Valka district of Latvia, with 1,700 inhabitants. It lies 20 km from Valka and the Estonian border.
North Vidzeme Biosphere Reserve

The North Vidzeme Biosphere Reserve is the only biosphere reserve in Latvia. It is in the northern Vidzeme region along the border with Estonia. The coastal part consists of sandy beaches, coastal meadows and areas of bare rocks.
Straupe
