The Dongji Islands are a chain of islands in the far eastern region of Zhoushan. Still remote, the islands are far enough out to sea that the silt of the Yangtze River Delta doesn't reach the sea around them, giving them nice blue water, a rarity in this region of China.

The town, as an administrative unit, occupies several minor islands of the Zhoushan Archipelago, namely: Most of the town's population resides on the larger islands of the Zhongjieshan Archipelago. Dongji is situated 9 km east of 小板岛.
