Chartres Cathedral is a Catholic cathedral in Chartres, France, about 80 km southwest of Paris, and is the seat of the Bishop of Chartres. Dedicated in honour of the Virgin Mary, it was mostly constructed between 1194 and 1220. Chartres Cathedral is situated 570 metres northwest of Église Saint-Pierre, Chartres.

The Abbey of Saint-Père-en-Vallée was a monastery just outside Chartres in France. Founded by Queen Balthild in the seventh century, it adopted the Benedictine rule in 954 and joined the Congregation of Saint-Maur in 1650.
