The name itself derived from Mising word "Sila" means Kite and "Pothar" means rice fields as the place used be a kiting ground for native Mising people during the winters. Kulajan is a small town in Dhemaji district of the Indian state of Assam. The town is situated on the northern bank of the Brahmaputra River. National Highway 515 starts from Kulajan and ends at Pasighat. Kulajan is situated 6 km southwest of Joriguri Playground.
