It was opened in 2004 and named after George Wainborn, who served as Vancouver's Parks Commissioner for 33 years. George Wainborn Park is situated 280 metres southwest of Pacific Point.

Opened in 1995, the arena was known as General Motors Place from its opening until July 6, 2010, when General Motors Canada ended its naming rights sponsorship and a new agreement for those rights was reached with Rogers Communications. Rogers Arena is situated 1¼ km east of Pacific Point.
