The station was opened on November 17, 2006, and is operated by the Regional Transportation District as part of the H and R lines. The earthen dam was constructed between 1948 and 1950 by the United States Army Corps of Engineers with a height of 141 feet and a length of 14,300 feet at its crest. Cherry Creek Dam is situated 3,400 feet southwest of Nine Mile Station.
