It was built in 1892 for the Boston and Maine Railroad and is a prominent regional example of Richardsonian Romanesque style architecture. This 3+1⁄2-story brick structure achieved its present configuration in stages, beginning in 1853, and successively altered and expanded through the rest of the 19th century.
