Veleta or Pico del Veleta is the third highest peak of the Iberian Peninsula and the second highest of the Sierra Nevada. Its height is given variously as 3,394 metres, 3,396 metres and 3,398 metres. Veleta is situated 3 km northeast of Refugio Elorrieta.

It is operated and maintained by the Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía and contains two Nasmyth telescopes with apertures of 1.5 and 0.9 metres. Sierra Nevada Observatory is situated 2½ km north of Refugio Elorrieta.
