Ueno Station is a major railway station in Tokyo's Taitō ward. It is the station used to reach the Ueno district and Ueno Park—which contains Tokyo National Museum, The National Museum of Western Art, Ueno Zoo, Tokyo University of the Arts and other famous cultural facilities. Ueno Station is situated 300 metres north of Ueno Marui.

Ameya-Yokochō, often shortened to Ameyoko, is an open-air market in the Taito Ward of Tokyo, Japan, located next to Ueno Station. The market is approximately 164,227 square feet in area, starting just behind the Yodobashi Camera building and following the Yamanote Line south until the Komuro building. Ameya-Yokochō is situated 140 metres southwest of Ueno Marui.

National Museum of Western Art

The National Museum of Western Art is the premier public art gallery in Japan specializing in art from the Western tradition. The museum is in the Ueno Park in Taitō, central Tokyo. It received 1,162,345 visitors in 2016. National Museum of Western Art is situated 520 metres north of Ueno Marui.

If you want to get a feel for old Tokyo, Ueno in the Taito district is a good place to start. Entirely lacking in high-rise condos or whiz-bang shopping malls, by Tokyo standards it's distinctly downmarket, in contrast to places like Ginza, but that means that eating, shopping and drinking are all affordably priced.
