Fernie is a town of 5,200 people in British Columbia that is fully encircled by the Rocky Mountains. It began as a mining town, but its location in the Canadian Rockies has led to the development of the Fernie Alpine Resort.

Coal Creek is a ghost town near Fernie, British Columbia, Canada. During the 1950s, residents left the town due to the closure of a mine. Some parts of the town remain, but most have been overtaken by forest. Coal Creek is situated 8 km east of Mount Fernie Campground.
