The Zugspitze, at 2,962 m above sea level, is the highest peak of the Wetterstein Mountains and the highest mountain in Germany. It lies south of the town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Bavaria, and the Austria–Germany border is on its western summit.

Zugspitzplatt Station, also known as the Glacier Station Zugspitzplatt, is a high-altitude railway terminus of the Bayerische Zugspitzbahn, a cog railway that connects Garmisch-Partenkirchen to the Zugspitzplatt, a plateau on Zugspitze, Germany's highest mountain at 2,962 meters. Zugspitzplatt station is situated 130 metres northeast of Maria Heimsuchung.
