Simon Pierre Tchoungui, the former prime minister of East Cameroun, was medical superintendent of the hospital in 1960 before being appointed Minister of Health in 1961. Central Hospital of Yaoundé is situated 3½ km southeast of CNPS(Caisse Nationale de Prévoyance Sociale).
