With around 63,000 inhabitants, Rundu is the second largest city in Namibia and the main city of the Kavango region in northeastern Namibia. The city sits on a hill on the south bank of the Okavango, the border river to Angola to the north of the river.

Calai is a town and municipality in Cubango Province in Angola. The municipality has an area of 7,900 square kilometres and a population of 22,654. It is bordered to the north by the municipality of Mavengue, to the east by the municipality of Dirico, to the south by the Republic of Namibia, and to the west by the municipality of Cuangar. Calai is situated 4 km north of Rundu Stadium.
