It was constructed in 1868 by an unknown architect, as a private residence for Levi D. Levi D. Jarrard House is situated 400 feet east of Douglass/Cook Writing Center.

Built in 1925 with a donation from Elizabeth Rodman Voorhees, wife of Rutgers trustee Ralph Voorhees, the chapel once served the community of Douglass College.
