Abusir is a seaside town on the shore of Lake Mariout on the western extremity of Egypt's Nile Delta. It is situated about 48 kilometres southwest of Alexandria. Abusir is situated 3 km southwest of El Safa.

Taposiris Magna, also known as Tapusir Magna, is a city established by Pharaoh Ptolemy II Philadelphus between 280 and 270 BC. The name means "great tomb of Osiris", which Plutarch identifies with an Egyptian temple in the city. Taposiris Magna is situated 3½ km southwest of El Safa.
